Community Benefit Opportunities from Earth Source Heat

Topics

The Capstone Course for Masters of Engineering evaluated the feasibility of potential by-products or additionality which will potentially be produced by Earth Source Heat, including additional thermal load or heating capacity, water pressure, water, etc.  Students worked with former Director of Sustainability of the City of Ithaca, Luis Aguirre-Torres, and other community partners, to assess potential partnerships and desires from the community.

The course produced a final report and recommendations outlining top considerations for community benefit from ESH, including technical feasibility and recommended criteria for future project evaluation.

Additional Project Potential

The preliminary evaluation will need to be compared against emerging data from Earth Source Heat, as the first test well is drilled and data is collected, beginning sometime in 2022.
