Nearly all campus cooling is renewably provided via Cornell’s Lake Source Cooling (LSC). LSC is ~ 500% more efficient than conventional mechanical chillers and utilizes no refrigerants. Much of LSC’s electricity use is offset by solar power generated off-site. Mechanical chillers are utilized for peaking purposes.
