New Freecycle Closet Opens for Staff in Humphreys Service Building

Campus Sustainability Office April 1, 2019

A new office supply re-use station has opened for employees in Facilities & Campus Services. The new site is sponsored by the FCS Green Team and opened Monday March 25th with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Humph-Frees Exchange encourages a “free to give, free to take” culture of reuse and redistribution within Facilities & Campus Services to encourage reuse and recycling of usable office supplies.

Staff and students are encouraged to contribute gently used, excess or unwanted office supplies. Anyone is free to take any items anytime.  The intent of this space is for office supplies, so contributions of other items like clothing or household goods should be placed in other reuse locations across campus.

The cabinet is located in the Humphreys 1st floor break room near the Human Resource offices.

Looking for more ways to reuse and redistribute on campus?

  • R5 Operations can arrange for a special pickup to remove university-owned items no longer needed by your office (e.g. surplus furniture, computers & electronic equipment)

  • Check out STACS, the online system for internal reallocation of university owned materials, to find usable items for your office space free of charge
  • Have too many items for the cabinet? Work with your office team to gather unwanted items in a centralized place. Use the FCS casual listserv to invite people to take what they want before you bring the rest to the cabinet or contact R5 to see what they can take.
  • Is something broken or no longer usable? Review R5’s guidelines for how and where to recycle a wide-range of items here on campus.

For questions about the space, contact the FCS Green Team.
