Cornell’s first-ever Beyond Waste Prom on March 26 marked the culmination of a two-month long sustainability campaign.
The new certification and consultation program was designed to help campus event organizers, from student teams to large-scale efforts like commencement, plan and execute event sustainability in food, waste, transportation, purchasing, and more. An easy certification checklist allows organizers to receive a badge for use in event advertising to create a culture of campus sustainability awareness and engagement.

As part of this year's Beyond Waste campaign at Cornell, organizers are hosting a meme competition to encourage fun and creative submissions related to the themes of the waste and purchasing-focused campaign.
Students living in the newly opened residence buildings – Toni Morrison Hall and Ganędagǫ: Hall – know of the buildings’ rooftop solar panels. But if the windows and walls could talk, they would be fluent in the language of sustainability.
The full residential compost program will continue at Cornell after amendments and cessation to the program during COVID-19. The initiative is seeking volunteers to help reduce waste and encourage composting education in residential communities.
